what i’d like to see more of in discussions on “gay rights”

• the right to not be sexually abused because of your sexuality or gender identity (and the right to not be abused, period)
• the right to be safe in prison, especially as a child
• the right to not be denied housing or employment based on sexuality or gender identity (still legal in a ton of states btw)
• the right to not be made homeless when you come out
• the right to be equally represented (i.e., not by cis-male white gay men)
• the right to health care that doesnt deny you coverage based on “pre-existing conditions”
• the right to donate blood, bone marrow, and organs, and not be denied based on your sexuality

however, i would change it to say that prisons, in and of themselves, are not safe for the incarcerated, so the idea of being “safe” in prison seems like a bit of an oxymoron to me. i understand the sentiment here (housing based on gender, not being put in solitary confinement for being trans*, not being assaulted or harassed for one’s sexuality or gender identity, etc.) though and think it’s very important!
